NE Office of Consumer Affairs Schedules Town Hall Meetings

The Nebraska Office of Consumer Affairs is hosting a series of video conferences where "you are invited to participate in Peer Support Training at a series of town hall meetings using the Nebraska Telehealth System."  You can access the Telehealth System in Omaha (University of Nebraska Medical Center), Lincoln (BryanLGH West), Kearney (Good Samaritan Hospital), and Scottsbluff (Panhandle Mental Health Center).

There are 3, 2 hour teleconferences scheduled in May, June and July covering topics related to mental health wellness and recovery.  To see the invitation, schedule and topics being covered, Click Here.

Growing Evidence Points to Peers Directly Affecting Client Outcomes

From the nice to see it getting serious attention department:  Mental Health Weekly (February 15, 2010) reports that the upcoming National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare conference in Florida will have a number of tracks that focus on the effectiveness of peer to peer services.  The presentations come from Southwest Behavioral Health Services (Arizona), and PEOPLe, Inc (New York), and both organizations will discuss how mental health facilities across the nation have begun to prioritized peer involvement, and that these programs are "yielding results that would be the envy of some trained professionals."  Download Growing Evidence

Lincoln's Keya House a refuge for guests

Lincoln Journal Star’s Nancy Hicks writes a nice introduction for the Keya House (LJS 12/29/09), describing the program as “a refuge, not a clinic.” MHA-NE's Keya House, 2817 S. 14th St., is a peer-run program for adults at least 19 years old with behavioral health diagnoses, who are not in severe crisis and who live in Southeast Nebraska.
